The eighth movie has been announced! The Last Jedi *dramatic music plays in the background* Now, I know Disney said they won't be following old lore, but do you think this has anything to do with the book, "The Last Jedi" by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff? I don't think it can considering this book is part of the prequel era set before A New Hope, but hey a girl can hope. Still, as excited as I am about this next installment, I hope it's not a simple remake much like how Episode VII was. How many times can you fight a Death Star looking machine before you lose your crowd? Well, obviously multiple considering the profits from Episode VII blew the charts away.
As a sincere, Star Wars nerd, I will go see the movie in theaters. If you take Rogue One from a movie, entertainment stand point it was brilliant. Great story, in my opinion, and I know many probably disagree, but I found it full of action and the good, old Star Wars feel. I thought Episode VI was harsh, but Rogue One definitely aimed to prove me wrong here. I don't think any of the franchise movies up until this point have been so heart breaking. Disney, thank you for not turning this movie into the traditional, "happy ending". You have my sincere gratitude for that. This is a war after all, we have to lose some after all.
Anyways, The Last Jedi is supposed to be a promising movie. As it continues with the Skywalker series, and quite possibly some new information on our kick ass female lead, Rey. Star Wars hasn't had an amazing female lead in quite a while. Of course, Princess Leia is always going to be the original, but considering Carrie Fischer's recent passing (may she rest in peace), little kids are going to need a new role model. I hope Daisy Ridley doesn't take her job lightly because she could very well be that woman. She's got grounds to cover but we'll see where she stands in the end.
The one thing I'm most excited for in this movie is the red lettering. Red is traditionally associated with the Sith and yellow is associated with the Jedi. Are we going to get an exciting look into Kylo Ren and where he stands, or is this going to be about some new powerful enemy we have yet to meet? Maybe our story in this movie doesn't sit with Rey and her cast, but instead sits across the way with our enemies? I don't know, everything is merely speculation of what is to come. I cannot wait to see what happens at the end of this year!
Who else is excited for The Last Jedi?
